A universal wear law for abrasion

چکیده
Finding a wear law that is valid over a wide range of conditions and materials would have enormous practical value. The authors have previously iscovered a simple relationship describing the evolution of the abrasive wear rate of steel sliding against boron carbide-coated coupons, and have eveloped a model accounting for its kinetics. The authors show here that this wear equation accurately describes the evolution of abrasive wear ates for several additional material pairs and contact conditions that were tested, as well as for all of the material pairs for which literature data ould be found. The only material parameters are the initial abrasiveness and the initial rate at which the abrasiveness changes with number of ycles. No other wear law so simple, accurate and widely applicable is known. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Clinical measurement of tooth wear: Tooth wear indices
Attrition, erosion, and abrasion result in alterations to the tooth and manifest as tooth wear. Each classification corresponds to a different process with specific clinical features. Classifications made so far have no accurate prevalence data because the indexes do not necessarily measure a specific etiology, or because the study populations can be diverse in age and characteristics. Tooth we...
متن کاملDetermination of scratching energy index for Cerchar abrasion test
Rock abrasivity is an essential factor for selecting cutting tools, estimating tool wear and life, and ultimately, matching various mechanized excavation systems with a given geologic condition. It also assists engineers to determine economic limits of different cutting tools and machines used in civil and mining projects. The Cerchar abrasion test is a simple and most widely used method for ro...
متن کاملAbrasion of eroded and sound enamel by a dentifrice containing diamond abrasive particles
Eroded enamel is more susceptible to abrasive wear than sound enamel. New toothpastes utilizing diamond particles as abrasives have been developed. The present study investigated the abrasive wear of eroded enamel by three commercially available toothpastes (one containing diamond particles) and compared it to the respective wear of sound enamel caused by these toothpastes. Seventy-two bovine e...
متن کاملThe role of erosion in tooth wear: aetiology, prevention and management.
Tooth wear is a universal experience. The cause is usually a combination of erosion, attrition and abrasion. Attrition usually presents with flattened incisal and occlusal tooth surfaces which accurately inter-digitate. Erosion from dietary or gastric acids forms smooth lesions which typically appear as cupped occlusal/incisal and concave buccal/facial surfaces. When combined with attrition or ...
متن کاملThe worn dentition--pathognomonic patterns of abrasion and erosion.
Historically, the dental literature has revealed various causes of tooth wear, yet it has failed to provide a conclusive method of differentiation and diagnosis of the condition. The categories of tooth wear encountered most commonly in dental practice are abrasion and erosion. The major causes of wear from abrasion are bruxism and toothpaste abuse, and the major causes of wear from erosion are...
